Charging
The MULTI XS 25000 charges and analyses in eight fully automatic steps.Using the MULTI XS 25000 gives your battery an optimum service life and operational reliability.
Temperature
To protect the charger from overheating, the MULTI XS 25000 is fitted with power limitation. The power reduces when the ambient temperature increases. The power also reduces if the charger were to be covered, which protects the charger from damage. The charger continues to work, but at a lower output. When the ambient temperature drops, the power automatically increases again.
Batteries
The MULTI XS 25000 can be set very easily to charge different types of lead-acid batteries (Wet, MF, GEL, Calcium/Calcium and AGM) and conditions. You will find an explanation of the various battery types under Charger University, Battery Types.SETTINGS | EXPLANATION |
---|---|
NORMAL | Normal setting for wet batteries, MF and for most Gel batteries. A somewhat lower charge voltage may be preferable for some GEL batteries. |
SUPPLY | In this mode, the charger delivers a constant voltage. This is the best maintenance mode for applications where maximum capacity from the battery is important. The MULTI XS 25000 could also be used as a power supply without a battery attached in this setting. No counter voltage is necessary to start the charger in this mode. Note that the charger is not spark free in this mode. |
RECOND | This mode is used to recover severely discharged batteries where you might expect stratified acid (high acid weight at the bottom, low on top). Use this mode with care, as the high voltage may cause some water loss. 16V is normally no problem for electronics in 12V systems, although maximum effect and minimum risk for electronics is achieved by disconnecting the battery. |
BULK CHARGE TIME | |
---|---|
BATTERY SIZE (Ah) | FOR ABOUT 80% CHARGE (h) |
60 | 2 |
100 | 3 |
225 | 7 |
500 | 16 |
Mounting
The charger is easily fitted in place using four screws. The diameter of the mounting holes is 4.5mm located as shown in the image. The image also shows the dimensions of the charger.
The charger must be fitted with the top or long side facing up to be approved for outdoor use.
Equipment
The MULTI XS 25000 is delivered with a battery lead with clamps, colour coded for easy +/- identification.
The charger also has a sensor cable located together with the battery leads. The unit automatically adjusts the charge voltage if the temperature deviates from +25°C. Higher temperatures lower the voltage and lower temperatures raise the voltage. The sensor cable can be extended or shortened without affecting functionality.
Technical specifications
MODEL | MULTI XS 25000 |
---|---|
Input voltage AC | 220-240VAC, 50-60Hz |
Output voltage | Nominal: 12V |
Efficiency | 85% |
Charging voltage | 14.4V, Temperature compensated |
Charging current | 25A max |
Back current drain* | <2Ah per month |
Ripple** | <4% |
Ambient temperature | -20°C to +50°C, output power is reduced automatically at higher temperatures. |
Cooling | Fan |
Type of charger | Eight step, fully automatic, switch mode with pulse maintenance. |
Type of batteries | All types of 12V lead-acid batteries (Wet, MF, AGM, Calcium/Calcium and GEL). |
Battery capacity | 50-500Ah |
Dimensions (L x W x H) | 235x130x65mm |
Insulation | IP 44 (Outdoor use)*** |
Weight | 1.4kg |
*) Back current drain is what drains the battery if the charger is connected without the power cord connected.
**) Ripple denotes the amount of interference there is to the current and voltage. A high current ripple heats the battery and shortens its life. A linear charger has a current ripple of 70 - 400% which is much larger than the maximum 5% for a modern sealed battery. Voltage ripple could harm other equipment, which is connected to the battery.
The MULTI XS 25000 delivers voltage and current with very low ripple. The battery gains a long service life and there is no risk of damage to other electronic devices connected to the battery.
***) IP 44 cannot be guaranteed unless the charger is positioned with its top or long side facing up.
