Cutty Sark 16.5 Inches

21 May 2007 - Cutty Sark virtually destroyed by fire!

In the early hours of the morning, the majestic Cutty Sark Clipper Ship was engulfed by fire in her dry dock home in Greenwich, London.

Until then, the Cutty Sark was the world's last intact clipper sailing ship, preserved in the 1920's and in the process of undergoing substantial restoration work.

The Cutty Sark was built in 1869 and intended for the tea trade but she was made redundant by the completion of the Suez Canal, which made steam ships more economic on this route.

Instead, the Cutty Sark earned her living, and her incredible reputation for speed and beauty, in the wool trade from Australia where the huge distances involved made sail the only practical option.

The Nauticalia 16.6-inch model of the Cutty Sark offers amazing detail for the price, with wooden decks and spars, authentic rigging and cotton sails.

Nauticalia models come completely assembled ready for display and accompanied by a history leaflet.
