Snugpak are very proud to be one of the last manufacturers of Snugpak quality sleeping bags, Snugpak insulated clothing and Snugpak backpacks, not only in the UK but across Europe, and their products are constructed using a superb range of highly effective and technically advanced materials to help ensure you'll stay warm and comfortable whatever your situation.
Softie
Softie is the Snugpak brand name for the synthetic (polyester) filling Snugpak used for the Softie range of sleeping bags. Though officially described as 'superfine high thermal', the factory nickname quickly found its way onto the bags themselves. It uses superfine yarns bound with special resins to produce a luxurious down like feel. The yarns used are staple yarns as they are natural insulations (as opposed to continuously extruded as in most synthetic fills) and a mixture of different yarn processes are applied to give a more random effect, that is some are curled, some crimped and some are just left as they are. The random nature of the process results in a product that closely resembles the structure of the natural down and the way it performs. Given all this technology, Snugpak's Softie is still easy to care for, washable, yet still retaining a lot of its thermal properties when wet.
Softie Premier
As part of the continuing development process to keep their synthetic insulation at the leading edge, Snugpak have introduced the next generation in sleeping bag technology: Softie Premier uses the same basic principles as traditional Softie but improvements in extrusion technology and binding resins result in a finer, softer and more durable insulation. Both Softie and Softie Premier are exclusive to Snugpak.
Reflectatherm
Reflectatherm is a metallised fabric designed to reflect heat and retain warmth. A highly breathable material, it adds little to the weight or pack size of the Snugpak products and provides at least 15% additional warmth whilst being undetectable by touch in the sleeping bag or garment.
Paratex
Paratex Light
is a lightweight highly windproof water-repellent fabrics, exceptionally breathable and able to wick moisture away from source, ideal for sleeping bag linings and mid-layer insulated clothing.
Paratex Dry
is a 100% waterproof fabric (hydrophilic polyurethane coating) with a hydrostatic head in excess of 5000 mm (items with a hydrostatic head in excess of 1500 mm are generally considered waterproof)
Paratex Micro
is a Ripstop sleeping bag casing fabric exceptionally tough but still just as breathable and windproof as the Paratex light.
Paratex Xtreme
as the name suggests is a fabric used on the cream of Snugpak's products giving a great balance between aesthetics and performance.
Ventile
Ventile and its secret lies in the uncoated and unlaminated construction. Snugpak's Ventile fabrics are 100% cotton, utilising the finest, long-staple fibres, only found in the top 2% of the world's crop. After gentle spinning and doubling, the yarn is woven into a very dense Oxford weave, using up to 30% more yarn than conventional woven fabrics.
The performance of Ventile fabrics results from the properties of cotton fibres which expand when they come into contact with water. The combination of fibres, yarns and weave causes expansion in a uniform manner and allows the spaces within the fabric to close up, preventing the further passage of water.
