One for the Ladies - Deuter's SL rucksacks purposely designed for women
Pink ... plays no part. It might well be 'the new black' but the really hot news are the changes Duter have made to the Deuter SL rucksacks to enhance the carry comfort for the woman on the move. Deuter's team of female outdoor sports specialists has taken a long, hard look at the little anatomical differences between men and women. The result of the investigations is a completely new product range of technical packs - the Women's Fit Line - that are designed to suit the female anatomy and to deliver optimised performance over a broad spectrum of use. If you are looking for a dedicated women's pack, the name to note is Deuter SL (Slim Line).
Deuter have not concentrated exclusively on the fairer sex, of course. Important innovations have been applied right across the new collection, including the recently adopted branded sleeping bag fill material, Polarguard Delta, one of the best synthetic fills on the market, and the introduction of several new sleeping bag models. The classic Zugspitze and Gröden have also experienced something of a renaissance, with a fresh new revamp that renders them even lighter than before, while radical changes have also been made to the highly popular Trans Alpine and Superbike. Tested and certified by TÜV, the new Shield rucksack system for free riders - skiers and bikers alike - is also worth a closer look.
Deuter are also proud to announce that we have acquired the services of one of the world's most exceptional female climbers - Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner - to support the product development team. From an early age, Gerlinde was out exploring the local mountains around her home town of Spital am Pyhrn. She was hooked from the start and used every available opportunity to go climbing. Her touring skis, ice tools and climbing rack were her constant companions. Her big dream of climbing an 8000-metre peak was achieved at the tender age of 23 with the pre-summit of Broad Peak in Pakistan. From that point on, Gerlinde could think of little else than the big hills. She was captivated, not only by the mighty Karakorum mountains but by the people, their religion and culture, too. Now in her mid-30's, Gerlinde is the first woman to have notched up eight 8000-metre peaks - including Broad Peak - all accomplished without supplementary oxygen. She not only brings her valuable experience at the cutting edge of Himalayan mountaineering to the development of the Deuter SL range but can also draw on an impressive number of ascents in the Eastern and Western Alps.

Deuter SL Women's Fit Series
On average, women’s backs are not quite as long as men’s. The SL carry system is thus slightly shorter than that of Deuter’s standard rucksacks. Consequently, the models in the SL series are the ideal choice, too, for male users with shorter backs.- In general, the female waist and hip area is also shaped differently, so in order for the waist belt to deliver a perfect anatomic fit when fastened, it should ideally have a conical shape.
- This conical form is achieved by angling the belt diagonally upwards and by
- curving the SL waist belt wings. The frontal adjuster system feature of our larger volume rucksacks simplifies the waist belt fitting procedure.
- In order to give a perfect anatomic fit around the upper body, the SL shoulder straps are both narrower and shorter in length.
- Soft edges to the straps, smaller buckles and narrow tapered strap ends prevent the SL shoulder straps from chafing under the arms and eliminate pressure points in the chest area.
- To take account of the narrower shoulder width of the female anatomy, and thus prevent slippage, the SL shoulder straps are set closer together.
