USS Constellation: Wooden Ship Model

Where appropriate, all scale ship models are constructed with hardwood using the plank-on-frame technique and built to scale using ships' drawings. The models use cotton sails and rigging and in the case of the larger vessels are suitable for use as exhibits in galleries or museums. Many models are available in Large and Small sizes with both versions offering the same level of detail.

Stocks of most models are held but you should allow up to 8 weeks for some of the larger models. If you have specific enquiries for other ships, please contact us. Models are shipped all over the world in secure packaging at very reasonable prices.

In any event, if you have any queries, please contact us by mail or call us by telephone and we will be pleased to help.

USS Constellation After a 3-year tour of duty in the Mediterranean, the outbreak of the Civil War saw USS Constellation as the flagship of the Africa Squadron patrolling against slavers.

In 1865, USS Constellation returned to Newport and was decommissioned, spending the next 75 years as training and receiving ship. During this period, she undertook a number of special assignments, sailing to Europe for the Paris Exposition in 1878 and the Colombian Exposition of 1892, to Ireland with food aid in 1880 and to Baltimore for the centenary of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' in 1914.

Re-commissioned in 1940, USS Constellation served as relief flagship for the Atlantic fleet and the Battleship Division Five from 1941 to 1943. She is currently in a museum in Baltimore.
