To get you to the right place on the start line and at the right time, the Suunto M3 Sailing Watch not only helps you to determine the favoured end of the start line, but it also displays the time to the start line in connection with the start timer to help you cross the line at just the right moment.

A Deeper Understanding
Before the race, you can make practice starts to estimate the time to the start line from a chosen position. Then, if the official signal is given 5 minutes before the start, set the Suunto M3 countdown timer to 5 minutes and start it at the official signal. This way, you'll know exactly when to set off from your chosen position in order to cross the start line right on time. Once the timer is synchronised, you can lock the synchro to ensure that the timer synchronisation isn't changed by mistake.
The Suunto M3 Sailing Watch also helps you determine the favoured end of the start line so that you're not just there at the right time, but at the right place too. By using the boat's compass and Suunto M3's rotating bezel, it is simple and quick to decide which end of the line to head for.

Once out on the course, the Suunto M3 continues to provide assistance by allowing you to calculate the bearing to the next race marker before you reach the turning point and compare it to the wind direction. This way, you can steer the correct course as soon as possible, giving you a valuable advantage over your competitors.
You can also mark the wind direction with the rotating bezel to track wind shifts, monitor the race time, and add time stamps (interval times). After the race, you can check Suunto M3's logbook to review the race times and time stamps.
