The Spyderco Pacific Salt Knife features a unique blade made from H1 steel, which is a precipitation-processed alloy that is rolled hard without the standard heat-treatment of lower quality blades. The alloy contains 0.1% nitrogen, which acts like carbon in the steel matrix, thus making the blade hard so it stays sharper for longer. The blade does not even react with chlorine because of its unique alloy composition.

The Pacific Salt has a premium blade as well as internal steel working parts which are treated to make them impervious to rust, pitting and salt, fit to survive a life at sea. The Pacific Salt even stays rust-free if put away wet.

The Spyderco Pacific Salt Folding Knife C91YL comes with wither a PlainEdge or SpyderEdge blade design, favouring slicing or hard cutting tasks, respectively. The Pacific has a slightly rounded tip and the blade's hole is enlarged to 14 mm for easier opening/closing access when used with gloved, wet or cold hands. Running along the top edge of the hole is serrated texturing so the index finger or thumb can be placed safely with greater pressure and control applied to the blade.

Volcano Grip texturing covers the handle which is made from super-tough Fibreglass-Reinforced Nylon (FRN) to ensure the knife does not slip from wet hands. The handle is fitted with a strong reversible titanium pocket clip which can be fixed for tip-down attachment to outer clothing for right- or left-handers.
