Deuter DS Bike 18 Dry Shield Backpack
Deuter’s Bike 18 backpack, with Deuter Dry Shield technology, takes a pure, reductionist approach to the battle against sudden changes in weather and spray water. Waterproof bonding techniques, waterproof material, a streamlined, compact shape and Deuter’s Airstripes back system all combine to create a completely new carry experience.
Deuter's Dry Shield series, known as the "DS" series for short, combines decades' worth of experience in backpack production with the very latest technology. Waterproof fabrics are not joined using the traditional method of stitching with a needle and thread but are ultrasonically bonded. In this process, heat from ultrasonic vibrations melts the edges of the fabric panels together. A strong yet flexible nylon tape is ultrasonically bonded on the inside of the resulting waterproof seams for strength. All zips and pockets are welded to the pack fabric. Elements which are subject to severe tensile force are mechanically bonded to the pack. The use of Deuter's Duratex 500 Carbonite nylon fabric rounds off the technical package perfectly. More durable and with a higher tear strength than polyester, it is also especially hardwearing for a 500 Denier material. A special Carbonite PU coating on the inside renders the fabric waterproof.
New materials and processes such as these have a strong influence on function and design. Waterproof bonding techniques and waterproof materials with a clearly defined technical appearance thus characterise Deuter's Dry Shield series.
