Vaavud Wind Meter for Smart Phones

The Vaavud Wind Meter uses the Vaavud app to convert your smartphone into a sophisticated meteorological tool whose app works with iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later and various Android models (see Vaavud phone compatibility list below).

Having accurate wind speed information can be a real help in many outdoor activities including watersports, ballooning, paragliding, hunting, hiking, biking and playing golf to name but a few.

The Vaavud design mimics professional cup anemometers, but the two cups instead of three means it fits easily into a pocket and the cup rather than propeller design means the device is not affected by changes in wind direction while in use.

The Vaavud Wind Meter looks simple but its one-piece moulded rotor and the low-friction Teflon bearing make it very durable and also low maintenance - if dust, sand or dirt gets inside the wind meter, it can simply be cleaned out with water.

The Vaavud app is available from the App Store and Google Play. This app gives you a clear overview of average, actual and maximum wind speed as well as a real-time graph. You can scroll and pinch-zoom on the graph if you want to take a closer look at a particular detail.

The unit of measure can be changed on the go simply by tapping the screen (available units: m/s, km/h, mph, knots and Bft).

A live map gives you access to measurements made by other Vaavud users around the world. Tap on a measurement to see details and a map thumbnail of the location. Tap on the map thumbnail to zoom in and see exactly where the measurement was made or tap on a nearby measurement on the list to see its details. You can use the Vaavud Wind Meter together with the Weendy app to tap into the world’s fastest-growing community-based weather network.

Accuracy

The Vaavud Wind Meter has a wind range of 2 to 20 m/s (up to 24 m/s for iPhone 5s and up to 48 m/s on some Android phones). Precision is the least of ±4% or 0.2 m/s.

Compatibility

The Vaavud Wind Meter is compatible with all iPhones from 4 onwards and all iPads from 2 onwards running on iOS 6 or 7. With Android phones, it also works, for example, with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 and the HTC One.
