The Funtrix LED Spinning Poi are multi-functioning, letting you lock a colour, select a colour flashing or let the Poi change through the complete colour spectrum.

Great fun in the day and spectacular effects at night, the pack is supplied with a 25-trick DVD, making the Funtrix 6.4-cm LED Poi the ideal Poi to start to learning with. Suitable for all levels of Poi experience, the Funtrix LED Poi are supplied with a carry bag so you can take them with you on the move.

Poi has a long tradition with New Zealand's Maori people. Traditional spinning Poi are weighted balls at the end of strings, which have a long, colourful ribbon attached, so that they can be spun around the body making hundreds of different patterns.

To gain a basic understanding of how poi works, you should consider that you are standing within a large clear cube. The poi can fly round beside any of the six sides of this cube. You have a poi in each hand.

Try the following tricks to get started:

• Spin both poi forwards
• Spin both poi backwards
• Spin one poi going forward and the other going backward

Now combine these movements (above) with changing the speed of the poi and:

• Both poi move at the same speed
• One poi is half a circle ahead of the other
• Spin one poi above head and one to the side (do this out of sync to avoid them clashing)
• Draw circles in front of your body – horizontally (e.g. in circles just off the floor) and vertically
