	Click to resize	Aberdeen & Grampian Aberdeen and Grampian contains a breathtaking range of scenery, from sandy beaches and dramatic coastal cliffs to large forests, mountain ridges and moorland, offering superb panoramic views across great walking and cycling country. Paths and trails are extensively signposted, and the long distance trails of the Speyside Way and the Formartine and Buchan Way attract many visitors.
	Click to resize	Dumfries and Galloway Dumfries and Galloway offers Scotland's most southerly point, with its beautiful fresh ocean air, countless historic attractions, fantastic coastal scenery, abundant bird life and an horizon that enables you to see Ireland, England and the Isle of Man. Dumfries and Galloway has maintained the quaintness of rural Scotland and offers great walking and hiking, with a firm favourite of many being the Moffat hills, a haven for walkers of all abilities.
	Click to resize	Highlands & Islands (North) The Highland landscape is, for many people, the essence of Scotland. The breathtaking panoramas, the wild and remote places, towering mountains and shimmering lochs provide a haven for rare wildlife. This makes the Highlands a great attraction for walkers and cyclists alike of all standards, and for the more adventurous, the Cape Wrath Trail runs through the heart of this area, taking in some of the greatest surviving wildernesses in the country.
	Click to resize	Highlands & Islands (South) The southern half of the Highlands contains some of the more visited areas of the region, including Ben Nevis and Glenn Coe. The area around Fort William and Lochaber provides some exceptional opportunities for mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking and walking, making it arguably the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK'. Notable walking routes in the area are the end of the West Highland Way National Trail, and the Great Glen Way, which follows the shoreline of Great Glen and Loch Ness.
	Click to resize	Lothian & Borders The Scottish Borders offers a landscape that ranges from rolling hills in the west, through to the agricultural plains of the east, leading to the rocky coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages. This area is rich in hills, moorlands, valleys and rivers, such as the famous River Tweed, so it is a haven for walkers and cyclists of all abilities, including the long distance path of the Southern Upland Way.

With the exception of the high rugged island of Hoy, it is mainly low-lying gently undulating land that is steeped in history. The unique collection of several thousand Neolithic sites ensured that the Orkneys were granted World Heritage status by UNESCO. The Shetland Islands are renowned for some spectacular walking routes, taking visitors through scenery ranging from dramatic Atlantic coastal cliffs and quiet inland lochs to gentle heather covered rolling hills.
