GET HOT, BUT STAY CHILLED WITH COOL SOLUTIONS.
The "been-there, done-that, got-the-UV-T-shirt-and-no-burns" team at adventure equipment specialists OutdoorGB.com is stocked up with kit and advice to help us stay comfortable this summer.
"Summer and the inevitable hot weather always seems to come as such a shock to the population, but the fact is we're a country that gets hot in July and August – and we travel more and more often to other hot countries," said Edward Giles of OutdoorGB.com.
The online retailer – whose staff test and assess new products in the field, water, heat and cold – has come up with a range of ideas and products to help us keep the effects of heat under control.
For the beach: "Our advice is to get into the water to cool off as much as possible without worrying about leaving valuables on the beach," said Edward Giles.
Recommended products: Aqua-pack belt case £17.00 - waterproof valuables bag that goes around the neck or as a belt; Connelly Big O Ski tube £76.32 - Big fun, small price; iPod nano fully waterproof case £48.99 – when purchased with the waterproof headphones you can swim about listening to your favourite tracks. Soft Fibre Trek Towels £12.49 – Compact, lightweight and quick drying, ideal for summer scorchers.
For the home: "Our advice is actually pretty obvious - find somewhere with a nice breeze and plenty of shade and get comfortable," said Edward.
Recommended products: Amazonas Santiago Family Hammock £69.95 - Fall asleep in total comfort with this family sized hammock; Zaptech Bug Zapper racquet £12.98 - Turn those pesky flys into an exciting pastime; Shakelight torch £15.98 – ideal for when the power goes out during the summer storms – no batteries required, ever.
On the move: "Again, our advice is pretty obvious: if you're getting toasted in traffic get some water to avoid dehydration, and try to keep the car moving. Breeze plus sweat equals cooling effect. Dehydration can sneak up on you – you don't always feel thirsty when you're dehydrated," said Edward.
Recommended products: 12V Caframo Fan £34.80 – looks cool, and is effective too; Deuter Hydrolite 2.0L Hydration pack £24.99 – lightweight backpack water carrier; Solar cool cap £10.50 – keeps you in the shade, and the solar powered fan keeps a breeze across your face.
