Racing Compasses and Tactical Compasses
Silva Sail racing compasses & tactical compasses are developed by the world's
top racers and Olympic sailors. The tactical scales and quick readability give
you the advantage that makes the whole difference. The cone-shaped card with
gimballed lubber lines has a main steering scale on the horizontal part of the
compass card and a tactical scale on the vertical edge of the card.
Racing Series compasses (103P, 103R, 73R and 85)
Detecting windshifts may be the tiny difference between winning and loosing.
The tactical scale grades from 0-20 and the figures correspond on port and starboard
tack. If the reading on star-board tack is 2 the reading on port after tacking
should be 2. In this way you only have to remember one figure: 2. This is a
great benefit in triangular course sailing where you want to detect the wind-shifts,
not your actual course.
Racing Elite Series compasses (103PE, 103RE and 103PE Tornado)
The double scale, divided in a green starboard and a red port scale, allows
you to read the actual course on port and starboard tack from the helmsmans
normal position at the rail. You no longer have to add 45° to your reading.
The green and red memory arrows, tell you to tack if the figures decreases on
starboard tack and to tack if the figures increase on port. The top scale allows
you to read the course on downwind or to check the start-line position.
