Deuter Backpack Materials

Not only will your Deuter Backpack with its high-quality fabrics see you through the roughest of situations, but also the creative combination of the right fabrics will optimise performance and reduce weight.

Deuter uses only selected backpack fabrics that are rip- and abrasion-proof, colour-fast, UV-resistant, quick drying, water resistant, longlasting and lightweight.

The two important synthetic materials are nylon (polyamide) and polyester. High-density polyamide fabric is extremely abrasion-resistant in a thin layer and is more robust than polyester. It is popular due to its high performance in a lightweight layer. Polyester doesn't absorb water and doesn't bleach when exposed to UV rays. Most importantly, the rugged polyester fabric has a typically soft touch yet is not heavy because polyester fibres are lighter.

The fabrics are specified by their thread thickness in denier (den), which is the thread weight specified over a thread length of 9000 metres. This means that a 9000-m long 600 den thread, for example, would weight 600 grams.

To provide high water resistance, Deuter fabrics are coated exclusively with polyurethane (PU) which is abrasion-proof, cold-resistant and flexible.

YYK zippers on your Deuter backpack are currently the best available on the market, top-quality zippers which are very robust and reliable.

Multi-chamber aluminium stays made from top-quality AL 2024 T6 aluminium are the load-bearing elements in Deuter backpacks and they are both lightweight and strong. The flat aluminium tube is divided into separate chambers by several inner walls. The effect in cross-section is that of a honeycomb. This strengthens the tube and prevents the stays from breaking. These multi-chamber aluminium stays are used in various widths depending on the backpack model.

Deuter Duratex
A polyamide fabric that is extremely abrasion and tear resistant. For all larger backpacks this is used for the bottom panel. It has thread of 1000 den and a thick PU coating on the inside.
Deuter Duratex Lite
Robust and durable Duratex in a 500 den weave. Markedly lighter than the 1000 weight version yet still durable, tear-proof and robust. PU coated.
Deuter Ballistic
New high density woven polyamide 420 den fabric with high strength and lightweight makes it especialy suitable for alpine packs and Aircontact. PU coating, shiny finish.
Deuter Ballistic Lite
Thin, tight-weave and lightweight 210 Polyamide fabric with a technical look and a soft hand. Ideal for light, sporty backpacks such like as Bike and AC Lite models. PU-coated.
Deuter Duratex 500 Carbonite
This nylon fabric plays an important role in the DS series. Tougher and more robust than polyester, it is very durable for a lightweight material, and has a high tear strength. The special carbonite PU coating on the inside also renders the 500 den nylon highly waterproof.
Deuter MacroLite
Special high density 420 den polyamide offers high abrasion resistance with its very tight weave. A very high quality, durable fabric with fine texture and technical sppearance. Used with Traveller. PU coating.
Deuter Diamond Lite
A lightweight 210 den nylon frabric with diagonal ripstop inner-woven reinforcement threads that provide this material with enhanced tear resistance and its technical appearance. The right mix of robustness and lightness ideal for our bike collection. PU-coated.
Deuter Ripstop Nylon
The regular chain-and-weft weaving of stronger threads creates a strong, but light 420 den nylon fabric with good abrasion and rip stoping characteristic. The outside is water-repellent, the inside is PU-coated.
Deuter Ripstop 210
New, ultra-tight weave, hard wearing 210 den nylon. Recognisable by the very technical, shiny surface incorporating tough Ripstop threads. This lightweight and extremely robust fabric is perfectly suited to the manufacture of lighweight products. Top-quality PU coating, used exclusively on the ACT Lite series.
Deuter Microrip Nylon
210 den Nylon fabric with strong ripstop threads and PU coating. This fine, lightweight and yet abrasion-resistant nylon is optimal for lightweight backpack construction. Used for the Classic, AC Lite and ACT Trail .
Hexlite 100
An ultra lightweight fabric with only 100 den rating. Hexagonal ripstop weave pattern for extra strength and technical appearance. This super light, PU-coated polyamide fabric is used on the smaller Speed Lite packs.
Hexlite 210
This 210 Hexagonal ripstop fabric used on the larger Speed Lite packs. A technical polyamide fabric which offers great strength for very lightweight alpine pack construction. PU coating.

3D Air Mesh
A 3-mm thick and therefore 3D polyester mesh. The optimum air permeability and padding effect turns it to the ideal lining fabric for back padding, shoulder straps and hip belts. It offers maximum durability and comfort.

Deuter Super Polytex
Made from 600 den Polyester thread with a thick PU coating, this multi-purpose fabric is robust and lightweight. It is most suitable for the high-quality Aircomfort Futura and daypacks, used in average conditions to keep the weight to a minimum.
Deuter Ripstop Polytex
The sturdier version of the Deuter Super Polytex with woven-in stronger threads. PU-coated. It has an important role in the Aircontact series.
Deuter Taffeta Nylon
It is a fine weave of 190 den threads for Deuter rain covers. It is light and packs small. The PU coating grants excellent water resistance.
